Welsh actor rescued drowning wallaby from shark-infested waters

A Welsh actor has saved a drowning wallaby in Darwin Harbour, Australia. The struggling marsupial was treading water near Weed Reef when it was spotted by a camera crew filming a British fishing documentary.

Julian Lewis Jones, who appeared in the recent blockbuster Zero Dark Thirty, was on the boat and pulled the wallaby to safety. "It was in great distress," Mr Jones said. "We drove our electric motor alongside the wallaby so we didn't scare him then I grabbed it; we sped to shore and gave him some water and nursed it back to health."

The tough critter only needed a few minutes on the sand with the fishermen before bounding off with a new lease on life. The crew were having a day on the water with fishing company Angler's Advantage catching queenies and barramundi. Tour company operator Brian Readman said he had never seen a wallaby in the water before - but it was lucky to be alive.

"I've fished on Weed Reef many times and it was amazing it didn't get eaten by a bloody shark, there's plenty of them out there," Mr Readman said. "We think it got chased by a dingo to the water's edge, panicked and got lost."
