Cyclist hunted after sleeping man shot with arrow

A man on a bicycle has fired an arrow into the torso of a 51-year-old man who was sleeping under the Victoria Bridge on the Bicentennial Bikeway in Brisbane, Australia.

Police want help to find the male cyclist, who rode past the man at the Queens Street end of the Bicentennial Bikeway at about 10.15pm on Sunday. He rode back several minutes later and fired a single arrow into the man's body before cycling away.

The man who fired the arrow was seen on a video surveillance camera carrying a large duffle bag. "We assume the bow and arrow was wrapped up inside the duffle bag," a police spokeswoman said. Police say the injured victim walked to a nearby convenience store, where police were called.

"He underwent emergency surgery in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, and is believed to be in a stable condition," a police media statement said. Police have released images of a man riding a pushbike on the bikeway. He is described as possibly Caucasian and aged in his 20s.
