Surprised newsreader Brian Jennings then returned to the airwaves and apologised to listeners admitting he had no idea what had happened.
The Morning Ireland production team later tweeted about the clanger saying: "That was one of the most bizarre things that has ever happened on Morning Ireland. Apologies to our listeners." A spokeswoman for RTÉ later explained that it was caused by a "breakthrough from another studio".
