Attempt to fly phone tied to pigeon into prison failed

A woman's attempt to fly a phone to her boyfriend at the Central Prison in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on Tuesday failed when the exhausted bird fell to the ground shortly after passing over the three-metre high prison wall.

Cristielli Mansa, 21, had attempted to send the device to her boyfriend, Wagner Machado Rodrigues, 19, who had been arrested for drug trafficking.

The unfortunate pigeon had fallen in front of a patrolling vehicle, prompting officers to rush outside where they found Cristielli and another man with a second pigeon inside a plastic bottle with the bottom cut off. Stuck to the wings of this pigeon was a 'backpack' with a battery, chips and R$427 (Brazilian real).

Cristielli and Sydney Jeferson Lopes da Silva, 35, were arrested for attempting to smuggle items into the prison and with animal cruelty.
