Couple married in naked ceremony

A woman known as the face of the San Francisco Bay Area's nude rights movement was wed on Thursday in front of City Hall wearing only a veil.  Gypsy Taub, a Berkeley mother of three, has been arrested repeatedly for violating San Francisco's public nudity ban. Taub received a citation from police for public nudity after the ceremony, and she said the event was a protest as much as a wedding celebration.





"It was fantastic. It surpassed all my expectations," she said. "It was just an awesome party." Still, she worried there could end up being stiffer penalties now - including up to a year in jail - because this was her eighth time being cited. "I don't want to go to jail," Taub said. But she said it was not in the city's best interests to imprison her because doing so would only magnify the effect of her activism.





The ceremony began on City Hall's steps, but 44-year-old Taub and her bridegroom, 20-year-old Jaymz Smith, were escorted by authorities to the sidewalk.  She began the wedding in a light dress, but she was wearing only her bridal veil by the end of the ceremony. Afterward, the married couple danced on the sidewalk with several other nude or nearly nude guests until police warned them that they would have 5 minutes to get their clothes back on or be cited for violating the nudity law.





When Taub continued dancing, the police placed her in a blue blanket and took her to a van. She, her husband and several of her guests then received citations. The police released her after she agreed to put her gown back on. "They were congratulating us on the marriage, and most of them didn't want to arrest us," she said of the cops. "We had such a great time."
