A mother in Murfreesboro, Tennessee filed a harassment complaint with police on Thursday over the fact that an acquaintance sent a text message wishing her daughter a happy birthday.
“I responded to a Teleserve call for phone harassment,” Officer E. Sharp said in a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report. “The complainant advised that the (female) acquaintance had texted and told (the woman) to tell her daughter, ‘Happy birthday.’”
Sharp reported the woman explained she was upset because she thought the acquaintance 'was being offensive with this comment.' “(The woman) also stated that (the acquaintance) advised (her) that she could show up at the residence and they could settle things physically,” Sharp reported, referring to their disagreement after the text message was received.
The woman insisted the situation was serious because a large number of people had recently shown up at her house to fight but dispersed quickly before anything happened. The woman, however, did not specify as to whether the acquaintance was part of that group, leaving police with little evidence for a harassment case.
