A headteacher has said sheep are preventing pupils going outside to play.
Children at Balladen Primary School in Rawtenstall, Lancashire are being kept indoors because sheep are invading the grounds almost every day. Headteacher Peter Summer said there have been stray sheep in the area for at least 14 years, but now the problem has got worse.
He said: “I don’t think there’s been a day for some time when we haven’t seen them and the sheep dirt is everywhere. It gets on children’s shoes, it gets into school and we’ve had to stop children playing out because of it. We had six sheep one morning and three the day before. They frighten the children.”
A police spokesman said neighbourhood officers are aware of the problem and if the sheep are causing a hazard they will try to get them returned to whichever field they should be in.
