New Zealand pizza chain advertises Easter special with billboards made of dead rabbits

New Zealand pizza chain, Hell Pizza, has put up billboards made of dead rabbits to promote a new flavour pizza.

The billboards are installed at several sites, advertising Hell’s new rabbit pizza. While making a billboard made of dead bunnies may seem a bit cruel to some, Hell Pizza were quick to point out that their products are ethically sourced.

The company said: "As well as being a delicious meat, and even quite cute, rabbits are unfortunately also a noted pest that is damaging to the New Zealand environment, particularly in the South Island.

"For those who are concerned, we sourced these rabbit skins via a professional animal tanning company, who in turn sourced them from local meat processing companies where the skins are a regular by-product."

It's a fine line between pets and livestock.
I have pet rabbits, hence I find this sign offensive.
It might as well have dog skins up there.
I have a dog that sits by my feet, a cat that sits on the back of the couch, and a rabbit that sits beside me, while I watch TV.
I have never heard of a rabbit savaging a child, ergo, rabbits are far better pets than dogs.
Dog pizza.
How does that make you feel ?
I actually know the guy that owns the Hell pizza company, he bought a house I built, and his wife, he and I became friends. I lost contact with them when they moved to the UK for a few years.
Maybe I should look him up and complain.

@WilliamRocket
dog pizza would be fine, as is beef or bacon or chicken.
how does rabbits destroying the south island make you feel?
get over your self-righteousness

Rabbit is a very lean, delicately flavoured meat. Putting it on a pizza is a waste.

@Anonymous telling someone to get over their "self-righteousness"....

Get a grip, it's still distasteful to use animal skins on a billboard, immaterial of whether or not they are classed as 'pests', are 'ethically sourced' or whatever.

Its still offensive and while you might not care, if you can't even appreciate that fact, it says a lot more about the kind of person you are than someone being "self-righteous".

There's a big difference between "offensive" and "offended". There is nothing offensive about the billboard, you, however, are offended by it.

Learn the difference.

I think it's in poor taste, but people seem to get off on "being offended" about things. Grow up. Being offended is part of daily life, deal with it. If you're offended tell the offender to go jump up their own arse. Don't go whining about it to the cops. (As one gent in oxford did, when he was rudely yet inventively harangued for taking too long to pick some cheese).

Rabbits are an introduced species that do major damage in New Zeland. It would somewhat be equivelent to being made of cane toads in Australia or rats in NYC. Though I understand where you're coming from. (And I can't argue that it isn't a tacky sign.) For instance, I hated seeing the dead ferrets all over in Harry Potter and I currently have a "pet" chicken who sounds as least as awesome as your rabbit- and it turns my stomach now to see freshly butchered hens. But as someone who still eats meat I don't see how anyone can honestly argue there's a real difference between eating a pig and a dog. The idea of eating either is just as sobering to me. The only real difference I can see between the two is cultural.

Yes, and this is still offensive. Pinning dead animals to a billboard to advertise pizza. Doesn't matter if it's a rat, or something that's classed as a pet. Either way, it isn't just tacky, or poor taste, it's also offensive.

I know plenty of people are far too easily offended and we live in a PC world gone mad at times, but it says a lot that people 'rubbish' something like this as not being offensive.
