Man hospitalised after ram he was about to slaughter head butted him

A man from Dayton, Oregon, is in the hospital after being head butted by a ram on Thursday morning. Dayton firefighters rushed to Ben’s Meat Processing Company and found 49-year-old Kelly Duval lying on the ground with serious injuries.

“He got hit, then walked 100 yards. They found him on the ground,” said Dayton Fire Chief Bret Putman. Crews said they were told a 2-year-old ram was supposed to be slaughtered by Duval but ended up head butting him in the face when Duval stuck his head inside a pen when he couldn’t locate the animal.

The owner of the meat processing company, Ben Montelongo, said Duval has worked for him often over the years. Montelongo said he heard Duval yelling and rushed outside. He found him lying on the ground with injuries to his face and called 911.

According to authorities, Duval was flown to Oregon Health and Science University, where he is listed in serious condition and being treated in the trauma unit for back and neck pains. Montelongo said he may decide to let the ram responsible for head butting Duval live since it was “fighting for its life.”
