Naked stranger flooded family's kitchen and pooed on their carpet

A family from Kuna, Idaho, are still reeling after a naked stranger entered their home last weekend. They say he flooded their kitchen and defecated on their carpet, but was not arrested. Tricia Gillaspy and her husband moved into their home just last week. But right now a massive clean-up effort is underway after quite a weekend. The intruder, who police say was 25-year-old Matthew Coomes, had been drinking. After surprising the couple, they say he ran into another bedroom to put his shorts on. "We woke up at 6:30 on Sunday morning to a naked guy walking into our bedroom," said Tricia.

"My husband's like, 'What the heck is going on?' And, I'm screaming in utter panic." "My husband grabs the gun because we have no idea who this guy is," said Tricia. "He's like, 'Get out of my house, now!' But the guy wouldn't leave. So, he puts the gun to his head, and says, 'I said, get out!'" Tricia says Coomes eventually started to walk out at gunpoint while her husband was calling 911. "He's like, 'There's a guy in my house. I'm going to shoot him, you better get a cop here now,'" she said. Coomes left the home, but not the property. And, as police arrived, the family found what police say Coomes had done before he came into their bedroom.



"He took this sink sprayer out and this drawer was in there. He put it in the drawer, turned it on full blast hot water, it filled that entire drawer full. It flooded my entire kitchen," said Tricia. "He craps on my floor, and he must have been playing in it because he streaked it down the side of my walls. The stain is gone finally, thank goodness." As upsetting as that was, Tricia says she was more upset by the fact that Coomes was cited with two misdemeanors, but not arrested by the responding officer. "I go running out the door, and am like, 'What are you doing!?' I'm like, 'This guy deserves to go to jail!'" Instead, he was taken home. "It's just frustrating that I've had to fight to stay safe in my own home," said Tricia. But, later she got a call from a Kuna Police sergeant who said the officer should have arrested Coomes.

In order to do that he would have had to tell her family that they could have made a citizen's arrest on those misdemeanor charges. But, a spokesperson now says they should have been told that. Kuna Police are doing an internal investigation and say they will include the lessons learned in connection with this incident as a part of their training. Coomes is currently charged with misdemeanors, but police expect Ada County prosecutors to charge him with a felony count of malicious injury to property as the damage is well-over $1,000. Police say it looks like Coomes was able to get in through an unlocked back door. Coomes told police he didn’t remember going into the home or using a spray nozzle in the kitchen. He said he also didn’t know how faeces got on the carpet or why a t-shirt and a pair of underwear he was wearing ended up on the floor of the home.
