Off-duty police officer died riding bicycle down stairs inside house

The death of a police officer in New Hampshire on Wednesday has been ruled an accident. Keith Trombley, 25, of the Nashua Police Department, was off duty and at a party with friends at another officer’s home in Pelham.

New Hampshire Associate Attorney General Jane Young says Trombley tried to ride a bicycle down a flight of stairs and hit his head. "This was a tragic, horrific accident," Young added, ruling the death as accidental.

Trombley made the fatal bike ride down stairs at the home of fellow Nashua Police Officer Ryan McDermott. The incident happened as the get-together was winding down and party-goers rushed to the basement after hearing a loud crash.

"The individuals at the home heard a crash, went to the stairs and Officer Trombley was at the bottom," Young said at a press conference. "The bottom of those stairs was a concrete floor." Trombley had been a member of the Nashua Police Department for two and a half years.
