The masked man attempted to disguise himself as the comic book favourite as he threatened the 61-year-old shopkeeper with a knife, demanding money.
But instead of handing over cash, the shopkeeper grabbed a hockey stick and bravely fought back against him. Police are now appealing for information on the attempted robbery at Graham Street Newsagents on Sunday at around 10.25am. The would-be-thief is described as 5ft 4, and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Eric Hepburn said: “Thankfully the shopkeeper wasn’t hurt but it was nonetheless a very distressing experience for him. Incidents such as this are rare in the area and there will be extra officers on patrol to provide reassurance to the local community. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact police.
