Man arrested after asking police to get his bong back

A man was arrested claiming supermarket staff in Hartlepool, County Durham, had confiscated his drugs ‘bong’ pipe.

Lewis Killingsworth complained to police who had been called to the store to deal with someone else, Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court heard. “It was just after midnight at Asda,” said Sean Ell, prosecuting.

“The defendant approached the officers apparently wanting them to recover some of his possessions from store staff. He was drunk, unsteady on his feet, and smelled strongly of intoxicating liquor.” Killingsworth, 18, of Hartlepool, admitted being drunk and disorderly on December 5.

He has a previous conviction for the same offence in June of this year. Neil Taylor, defending, said in mitigation: “Mr Killingsworth accepts his guilt, and he accepts the language he used was inappropriate. He wishes to apologise for the way he behaved.” Killingsworth was ordered to pay £295 in fines and costs.
