Police hunt apparently intoxicated burglar who fell up stairs and made rude gesture to camera

Police are trying to identify an apparently intoxicated man who was caught on camera in a Manchester office block where two laptops were stolen. CCTV footage shows the moment the suspected thief took a tumble while climbing the stairs of the building.

The man then got up and struggled to climb the remaining stairs and open the door of the city centre office before giving the CCTV camera the middle finger. Police found the footage while investigating a break-in on King Street just after 3am on Saturday, November 28.

An Apple Macbook and a Lenovo Laptop, together worth around £800, were taken in the burglary. The suspect is white, around 6ft and between 20 and 30-years-old. The man in the video was wearing glasses, a grey and black striped bobble hat, a grey coat, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Inspector Phil Spurgeon said: “We’re all human and we’ve had a chuckle at this footage, but ultimately burglary is a serious matter and we’d like the last laugh to be on the offender. To do that we need to deliver some justice for the victim, and that will possibly need the public’s help to identify this man and help us catch him. If you know this man please call the police.”
