Skiers became stuck in man-made blizzard

Two unfortunate skiers became stuck in their own personal snowstorm after the lift stopped next to a snow cannon.

The incident happened in the Damuls-Mellau ski region in the western Austrian province of Vorarlberg, where the ski tourists were travelling on a two-seater chairlift up the mountain to get back on the slopes.

Unfortunately for them, the lift stopped temporarily, probably to help somebody get on at the bottom, and came to a halt right next to the snow cannon. The snow cannons have been in use across Austria to try and keep snow on the pistes, blasting jets of water into the air which freeze as they fall to the ground.

Eyewitnesses speaking in German, who filmed the incident, can be heard saying that they cannot believe what they are seeing as the pair struggle to escape from the man-made blizzard. The pair were stuck for over a minute in the icy blast. To add insult to injury, the water blasting out of the snow cannon as a fine mist had not had time to freeze, leaving the unfortunate pair soaking wet.
