Dog leotards stop pets shedding fur around the house

Dog owners tired of finding their pet pooch's hair on everything may have had their prayers answered following the creation of leotards for dogs. The outfits have been created to stop dogs shedding their fur around the house. Tighter-fitting than your standard dog coat, the suit comes in a range of sizes and colours, and is reported to be safe and comfortable for dogs.

Shed Defender is a form-fitting and stylish jump suit which promises to banish doggy hair from cars and homes. They can also be used to keep dogs warm in the winter and protect them from flying insects, ticks, or plants that might irritate them on a country walk. Tyson Walters, founder of US-based Shed Defender, said: “The idea came to me about six or seven years ago.

“I had this huge St. Bernard Harley, and I just couldn’t control her shedding. No matter how much I brushed and groomed her, she still left tumbleweeds of hair everywhere. I looked around on the internet and dog stores and I couldn’t find a solution to my product, so I decided to make one. After four years of making prototypes and testing, I finally had a product that we could sell.

“People love the idea, love the look, and it is a head turner. People always take pictures of my own dog Harley when she’s wearing it and ask where they can get one. There’s only been one dog I couldn’t put it on, and this is after thousands of fittings with other dogs. The dog didn’t like its paws being touched. My next big step is to get licences for sport teams and make custom ones with logos.”

Yet another product for lazy people who don't object to turning their cash into trash. No consideration for the dog or his or her dignity is in the equation. As with thunder shirts, "crates" and powder food supplements, all crutches for people who simply cannot be bothered to do right by their loving companions. Harumph.

One of the reasons I left America is the way they treat animals. When I was a child the dogs in the neighbourhood ran free, like the children. We all played together, and there were always several dogs accompanying a group of children. Now both are treated like fugitives, kept under constant watch, and never let out into the real world alone. Of course the dogs we had then were a lot safer with children than the pit-bull buying morons of today like to have on the end of their leash.

If you don't like dog hair, don't have a dog!

I agree with Ratz! This is like putting them in a straight jacket. And to Anonymous, pit bulls in and of themselves are great pets. They are made icious by their owners.

If I see one of these dogs I will do the humane thing and shoot it on the spot.

I hope you are talking about the owner and not the dog, DeSelby.

I'd worry about the dogs overheating. This can't be good for them.

Exactly. No surprise that this story originates from the US....
