Quick-thinking children put out fire at home of disabled occupant with their water guns

A group of quick-thinking children in North Dakota helped put out a deck fire on Tuesday afternoon.

While en route to the apartment in West Fargo, fire fighters were notified that the occupant of the apartment was on home oxygen and could not evacuate, nor extinguish the fire.

A planter had caught fire and spread to the siding and wood decking. The first unit on scene found the remains of a planter, but the fire was already out. The West Fargo Fire Department later found out that five neighbourhood children had seen the fire and alerted the occupant. They then used their water guns to control the blaze before the fire department arrived.

“Their quick thinking and lightning fast reaction, containing the fire while still small, saved the building from extensive fire damage and quite possibly, the life of the occupant in the apartment,” said West Fargo Fire Chief Dan Fuller. The department reminds everyone to properly discard smoking materials. They recommend completely soaking them in water before throwing them away.

If they were on home Oxygen, I really hope they never try smoking whilst that's on. They could have a bigger issue than a planter fire, like, being on fire themselves.
